Labor Day News

NHL.com is doing a fantastic job of covering prospects. Thy featured Ian Cole a 2007 first round pick by the St.Louis Blues. He could be a solid pick up by the Blues. Blues fans are excited for this kid. St. Louis looks good on defense for the future. They Have Erik Johnson and Alex Pietrangelo.

The Hockey Journal has a story on Merrimack and their aggressive approach in recruiting. I have to agree with their approach, with the other major schools in the area, they need to get right to the point. If they don't, the potential recruit will just move on to the bigger schools. Hopefully Merrimack can find a recruiting pipeline.

Michigan College Hockey has a story on Lake Superior State University recruit, Kyle Jean. He plays for the Traverse City North Stars of the North American Hockey League.

A couple of California kids are impressing at WHL Camps. I feel Shane McColgan should play in the United States Hockey League this season. He will dominate the AAA Midget Level this season.

In that same report, Alexandre Plante has asked the Calgary Hitmen to trade him. He struggled last year after being drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 2007. He wasn't the only WHL defenseman to struggle last sean after being drafted, Keaton Ellerby, a draft pick of the Florida Panthers. He was traded last season in the WHL.

The Q Files have a couple of blog posts on Halifax Mooseheads training camp.

The Saint John Sea Dogs have released seven players from training camp.

That's My Take
