2010 Canada World Junior Roster

I will take a stab at the Canada World Junior Team

Goalies

Jake Allan (Montreal QMJHL)
Edward Pasquale (Saginaw Spirit OHL)

Other Possibilities

Oliver Roy (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles QMJHL)
Michael Hutchinson (Barrie Colts OHL)
Jacob DeSerres (Seattle Thunderbirds WHL)
Nathan Lieuwen (Saskatoon Blades WHL)
Kevin Poulin (Victoriaville Tigres QMJHL)

Hockey Canada is familiar with Jake Allen. He was stellar at last year's World Under 18. I fully expect him to be the starter. Pasquale is a late 90 so he will be eligible for the 2009 NHL Draft. I wouldn't be surprised if they took either Oliver Roy or Nathan Lieuwen to groom them for the 2011 World Juniors.

Defenseman

Colten Teubert (Regina Pats WHL)
Alex Pietrangelo (Niagara Ice Dogs OHL)
Ryan Ellis (Windsor Spitfires OHL)
Tyler Cuma (Ottawa 67's OHL)
Tyler Myers (Kelowna Rockets WHL)
Michael Del Zotto (London Knights OHL)
Jared Cowen (Spokane Chiefs WHL)

Other Possibilities

Yann Sauve (Saint John Sea Dogs QMJHL)
Patrick Wiercioch (Denver Pioneers WCHA)
Colby Robak (Brandon Wheat Kings WHL)
Travis Hamonic (Moose Jaw Warriors WHL)
Cameron Gaunce (Mississauga St. Michael's Majors OHL)
Simon Despres (Saint John Sea Dogs QMJHL)
Brandon Burlon (Michigan CCHA)
Michael Stone (Calgary Hitmen WHL)

I highly doubt that any of the defenseman play in the NHL by the time the World Juniors roll around. The top seven is just scary to think about. Every player is a first rounder. I fully expect Ellis and Cowen to go in the first round.

Forwards

Jordan Eberle (Regina Pats WHL)
Evander Kane (Vancouver Giants WHL)
Patrice Cormier (Rimouski Oceanic QMJHL)
Taylor Hall (Windsor Spitfires OHL)
Matt Duchene (Sudbury Wolves OHL)
Brayden Schenn (Brandon Wheat Kings WHL)
Nazem Kadri (London Knights OHL)
Eric O'Dell (Sudbury Wolves OHL)
Luke Adam (Montreal Juniors QMJHL)
Joe Colbourne (Denver University WCHA)
Greg Nemisz (Windsor Spitfires)
Kyle Beach (Lethbridge Hurricanes WHL)
Nicolas Deschamps (Chicoutimi Sagueneens QMJHL)

Other Possibilities

Stefan Della Rovere (Barrie Colts OHL)
Daultan Leveille (Michigan St. CCHA)
Maxime Sauve (Val d'Or Foreurs QMJHL)
Zack Kassian (Peterborough Petes OHL)
Scott Glennie (Brandon Wheat Kings WHL)
Danick Paquette (Lewiston MAINEiacs QMJHL)
James Wright (Vancouver Giants WHL)
Nathan Moon (Kingston Frontenacs OHL)
Ethan Werek
(Kingston Frontenacs OHL)
Louis LeBlanc (Omaha USHL, committed to Harvard ECAC)
Peter Holland (Guelph Storm OHL)

As you can see there's no John Tavares and Cody Hodgson because they will be in the NHL. I left off Della Rovere because he wasn't disclipline enough. I know his role was to be an agitator but he took some questionable penalties. I replaced him with Kyle Beach but he's a question mark with his past history with Hockey Canada.

That's My Take

1) why is Jacob DeSerres on your list of possible goalies? I'm a Seattle Thunderbirds fan, and I have NEVER liked this kid. Would Pickard still be eligible? or maybe his younger brother, who might actually be better (played in u-17 tourney this year)
2) Just because tavares might be in the NHL doesn't mean they won't be in the world juniors! Oscar Mollar was in the world juniors. He is playing for the Kings.
3)Hopefully the trade a few days ago that put Kyle Beach in Lethbridge will benefit him, if not Chicago will be wondering why they they wasted their draft pick on him.

1. Ok I was looking at his stats from last year. Apparently hockeydb hasn't updated his stats for this season. Maybe he can regain his form from last year. Yes Pickard will be eligible but because he will only be 17 year old I highly doubt he will be on the team as a goaltender.

2. I know Moller was in the NHL. There's a difference where Moller is more of a secondary option for the Kings and could afford him to play in the WJC's.

Tavares will most likely play for the New York Islanders. Do you think they will let him go to play the WJC's? I highly doubt it because he will be an attandance draw to a team that needs help in that department. His development would be better served in the NHL anyways.

That's why you didn't see Stamkos,Doughty, Schenn, Gagner, Bailey, Kyle Turris, Sutter or Gillies in this past tournament. Either their teas felt there development was better served in the NHL or they helped the attendance ie Stamkos.

If Tavares shows that hes capable to play in the NHL day in day out there will be no way that he wears a Canadian sweater at the WJCs next year.

I'm surprised you don't have guys like Landon Ferraro or Brandon Kozun on your list.

As far as goalies, I'd not consider Deserres at all, he's having an off year, and unless he turns it around I don't see him being considered.

Martin Jones could also be considered for a goaltender.
