Draft Eligible players of the week

Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW) / International Scouting Services (ISS) 2009 Draft Prospect Performers of the Week presented by the Pipeline Show & Hockey Now ending Sunday, March 29, 2009.

Each week, International Scouting Services (ISS), Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW), Hockey Now, and The Pipeline Show recognize the Top Draft Eligible player from each of the WHL, OHL, QMJHL, & USHL leagues for the upcoming 2009 NHL Entry Draft based on their play over the course of the week. Players are nominated and the selected by graduates of the SMWW Hockey GM & Scouting with each of the winners receiving a gift acknowledging their selection.



ONTARIO HOCKEY LEAGUE – OHL

Ontario Hockey League – Matt Duchene, Brampton Battalion

Matt Duchene is this week’s OHL draft performer of the week after scoring 2 goals and adding 2 assists in 2 games for the Battalion who defeated Peterborough 4 – 0 in the first round of the OHL Playoffs. Duchene, a native of Haliburton, ON is known for his exceptional shot and speed.

Western Hockey League – Brayden Schenn, Brandon Wheat Kings

Brayden Schenn takes this week’s WHL award after scoring twice and adding a pair of assists in 2 games. Schenn has 4 goals and 4 assists in 4 games in the Playoffs this season which saw Brandon sweep Kootenay to advance to the upcoming second round. Schenn, a native of Saskatoon, SK is a top rated forward for the upcoming draft and is known for his ability to dominate physically and offensively.

QUEBEC MAJOR JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE – QMJHL

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League – Dmitry Kulikov, Drummondville Voltigeurs

Dmitry Kulikov wins this week’s QMJHL award after registering 5 assists in 2 games against Lewiston. Kulikov had a strong regular season, recording 62 points and is currently amongst the QMJHL playoff scoring leaders with 1 goal and 12 points. Kulikov, a Russian native is known as an aggressive defenseman who likes to jump into the play whenever possible.

Shane Berschbach is this week’s USHL nominee after scoring 2 goals in a game vs. Chicago earlier this past week. Berschbach is in his first season in the USHL and 42 points in 54 games this season. The native of Clawson, MI is a good skater who is not afraid of playing in tough areas despite his small stature.
