The soap opera, saga, or whatever you want to call this another twist in in. This doesn't come out of left field like some might think. Apparently Hockey Canada has offered a spot to Cam Fowler on the Under-18 team for the World Under 18 Championships in April. Remember his family is from Canada.
Jeff Hicks who has been on top the story all week, had a quote from Fowler's agent.
I remember last year there were rumors that the USA would bring Fowler to the World Under 18's for this very reason.
If you remember correctly, we went the same situation last year with Tyler Myers. He played for USA at the Ivan Hlinka tournament (non-IIHF sanctioned) and in the World Under 18's in the spring he was wearing the Maple Leaf.
Now, Myers moved to Canada when he was 10 from Houston, Texas. He played all his significant minor hockey in Canada. Where as Fowler has played all his significant hockey career in the United States.
I don't think it's easy as going to be switching countries for Fowler. For one, he's arguably USA's best player. I can't imagine Fowler being let go to play for Canada. This is probably the biggest Under 18 tournament for USA because its on home soil.
He would have to break his contract with the National Team Development Program. USA Hockey will fight that to the very end.
I don't know off the top my head how the pools are set up but imagine an USA-Canada contest with Fowler on Canada. I would love to see that happen. It would make for great television. TSN does usually show the tournament's medal round.
This is almost getting out of hand and we will probably go through this next season with Adam Clendening. Either an Under-17 tournament needs to be sanctioned or go as far and start sanctioning Pee-Wee games (I am joking here).

wow, this is a stupid discussion (if you're in the know). I've known the family for years. Cam won't play for anyone but the US in April. Move on, please.
