QMJHL Players of the Month

Press Release

BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, March 19, 2009 – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the winners of the offensive, defensive and rookie player of the month awards for March. The players were chosen by a committee mandated by the League.

Keven Veilleux is the award-winner on offence after a spectacular month in which he registered five goals, including two shorthanded markers, and added eleven assists in only five games. Furthermore, he posted a +6 rating. The Océanic continued to roll during the month of March, collecting five wins in six games.

Joël Champagne (Rocket), Maxime Tanguay (Tigres) and Mikhail Stefanovich (Remparts) were also considered.

Kevin Marshall is the winner on defence. The Remparts defenseman scored a goal and added nine helpers while posting a +6 rating. Moreover, he distributed fourteen bodychecks. Quebec won four of their seven games in the last three weeks, securing the top spot in the TELUS Eastern division standings with 101 points.

Olivier Roy (Screaming Eagles), Marc-Antoine Gélinas (Olympiques) and Alain Goulet (Olympiques) were also in the mix.

Right-winger Marc-Olivier Mimar of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar is the rookie of the month. In seven contests, the rookie forward recorded five goals and six assists for a total of eleven points. He also posted a +5 differential. The Drakkar made the playoffs after a strong push in March, winning four games. After a slow start, Minar looks to be a strong offensive asset for Baie-Comeau next season.

Karel St-Laurent (Sea Dogs), Dmitri Kugryshev (Remparts) and Louis-Marc Aubry (Junior) also received consideration.
