NAHL Championship is set

The West Division champion Wenatchee Wild (3-1=6) advanced to the Robertson Cup championship game after its 3-2 victory over the Central Division champion Bismarck Bobcats (1-3=2) in the first game on the fifth and final day of the four-game round-robin portion of the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament at the North Iowa Ice Arena in Mason City, Iowa.

The Wild will play the South Division champion St. Louis Bandits (3-1=6) for the Robertson Cup championship on Sunday at 2 p.m. (CST).

Michael Voran, DJ Vandercook and Jack Nicoll (game-winner) scored for the Wild in its win over the Bobcats, and goaltender Mathieu Dugas made 15 saves.

With five points (2-1-1 record), the North Division champion Mahoning Valley Phantoms finished the tournament in third place.

In the final game of the round robin, the host North Iowa Outlaws (1-3=2) doubled up the Bandits, 4-2. Joe Harren and Jack Paul each recorded a goal and an assist for North Iowa, and Derek Donohue chipped in two assists. In goal, Thomas Callaghan stopped 19 shots.

The Robertson Cup crowns the NAHL’s playoff champion, which also represents USA Hockey’s Tier II Junior A national champion.
