Two draft picks commit to Chilliwack

Chilliwack, B.C. -- Chilliwack Bruins interim General Manager Darryl Porter announced today that forward Steven Hodges and defenceman Kade Pilton, the Bruins first two selections in the 2009 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft have signed with the team.

Hodges, the Bruins first selection (9th overall) spent last season with the South Delta Bantam AAA Hawks where he scored 62 goals and added 80 assists in 60 games.

The Bruins used their second selection (25th overall) to select Pilton from the Pursuit of Excellence Bantam AAA in Kelowna.

“We are very pleased that these two young men and their families have chosen the Chilliwack Bruins and the Western Hockey League to pursue their hockey career,” stated Porter. “Both Steven and Kade are mature individuals who I think our fans are really going to enjoy watching.”

After signing their contracts and being presented with Bruins jerseys, the two players and their families toured Prospera Centre before they were the special guests of Chilliwack’s acting mayor Chuck Stam at Chilliwack’s City Hall.

Hodges and Pilton are both expected to play in the BC Major Midget League next season. As 1994 born players they will each be able to play five games with the Bruins during the 2009-10 season prior to the completion of their respective teams seasons.

The Bruin’s Training Camp begins August 20th at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack.
