Saint John sign their two Imports

Press Release

Saint John Sea Dogs Director of Hockey Operations Mike Kelly announced on Tuesday that import forwards Stanislav Galiev and Tomas Jurco have both signed with the team. As per club policy, terms of the contracts will not be revealed.

“We’re thrilled that both Stanislav and Tomas are officially joining our organization,” says Kelly. “Both players are exceptionally-skilled forwards with dynamic on-ice abilities and we’re definitely looking forward to having them in Saint John for the coming season.”

The Sea Dogs originally acquired the rights to both Galiev (first overall) and Jurco (fourth overall) in the opening round of the 2009 CHL Import Draft. Both players will be competing at the upcoming Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament in Eastern Europe, with Galiev set to suit up for the Russian national squad and Jurco set to skate with the co-hosts, Team Slovakia.

Galiev, 17, played for the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League last season, tallying 29G-35A-64P in 60 games played. The 6’1”, 177 lb. winger also recorded 5G-4A-9P during the ’09 USHL playoffs, helping Indiana capture a Clark Cup Championship in the process. Jurco, meanwhile, led HC Košice of Slovnaft Extraliga in scoring in 2008-09 with 24G-30A-54P in 51 games played.
