Trades in the WHL

Press Release

Saskatoon, SK -- The Saskatoon Blades have acquired goaltender Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) from the Prince Albert Raiders in a multi-player trade completed on Monday.

The Blades acquired Stanford along with a 6th round Bantam Draft pick in 2011 from the Raiders in exchange for defenseman Brendon Wall, defenseman Tyler Yaworski, and a 4th round Bantam Draft pick in 2011.

Stanford, a 19-year-old, played in 45 games last season compiling a 15-24-3-1 record with a 3.63 goals against average and a .895 save percentage. So far this season, he has played in 2 regular season games with a 0-2 record to go along with a 4.82 goals against average and a .865 save percentage.

In return, the Blades sent Wall, a 19-year-old who has played in 5 games this season, scoring once and adding an assist for 2 points, and Yaworski, an 18-year-old who played in 1 regular season game this year, going scoreless, before being reassigned in late September.

“By bringing in a goaltender like Steven, we feel we have found the right individual to compliment Adam Morrison,” commented Blades General Manager and Head Coach Lorne Molleken. “In any games we watched or played against Steven he has always performed extremely well.”

“In the case of Brendon, he has been a valuable member of defensive group. However, with the emergence of the three young defensemen in our lineup in Kizuik, Siemens, and Thrower, it appeared we were not going to be able to give Brendon the ice time he needed. This trade will allow for that.”

“Finally in the case of Yaworski, he was a kid we were forced to send down again because of the depth we had. He will be given a great opportunity in Prince Albert and we wish both young men the best of luck.”

Raiders Acquire Goaltender Flette from Brandon

Prince Albert, SK -- The Raiders have acquired the services of fourth year WHL goaltender Dalyn Flette from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for a conditional Bantam Draft Pick. The pick is the Raiders 7th round selection in 2010, unless Flette is on the Raiders’ roster as of December 1, 2009, then Brandon would receive PA’s 5th round bantam pick in 2011.

Flette has appeared in 57 career WHL games with Kamloops and Edmonton and had yet to see action for the Wheat Kings this season.
