CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Jordan Weal of the Regina Pats.
Weal picked up nine points, scoring four goals and five assists to go with a +6 rating, in three games over the past week, helping the Pats post a 3-0 record in that span.
On Wednesday, September 30th, the Pats were in Prince Albert to face the Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre. Weal netted his first career hat trick, scoring three times to push the Pats to a 9-3 victory; he was also named the games 2nd Star. On Friday, October 2nd, the Pats hosted Divisional rivals the Swift Current Broncos to the Brandt Centre in Regina. Weal picked up a pair of assists as the Pats downed the Broncos 6-1; he was also named the games 3rd Star for his efforts. The following evening, Saturday, October 3rd, also at the Brandt Centre, Weal scored one goal and added three assists as the Pats defeated the Red Deer Rebels 7-3, he again was named the games 3rd Star.
Weal, a 17-year-old centerman from North Vancouver, British Columbia, is in his second full season with the Regina Pats. During last year’s rookie season Weal picked up 70 points in 65 games and was the WHL Eastern Conference nominee for WHL Rookie of the Year. He currently sits seventh among WHL scorers with 11 points in eight games.
The WHL has also nominated Calvin Pickard of the Seattle Thunderbirds for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. On Friday, October 2nd, the T-Birds hosted U.S. Divisional rivals, the Tri-City Americans at the ShoWare Center in Kent. Pickard stopped all 57 shots faced to record his fourth career shut-out as Seattle downed the Americans 1-0. He was also named the games 1st Star.
