Cornet Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Philippe Cornet of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 29. Cornet had eight points in two games scoring two goals and collecting six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Cornet’s eight points led the Huskies to two home wins this week over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar including a 9-4 win on Friday night and a 9-2 win on Saturday. He scored one goal and added two assists in Friday’s contest before recording a career-high five points in Saturday’s contest with one goal and four assists as third star of the game. Two of his assists came in the third period where the Huskies counted four goals in a stretch of 1:46.

Cornet, a 19-year-old from Val-Senneville, QC, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season and first with the Huskies after competing for three years with the Rimouski Oceanic. Cornet is currently ranked second in league scoring with 45 points in 30 games including 18 goals and 27 assists. The Edmonton Oilers prospect was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and scored two goals for Team QMJHL in the 2009 SUBWAY Super Series.

Dustin Sylvester of the WHL’s Kootenay Ice was also considered after scoring three goals and three assists for six points in two road wins highlighted by a four-point game Friday night in a 6-5 shootout win over the Kamloops Blazers. Ryan Spooner of the OHL’s Peterborough Petes was also considered following two four-point games where he was named first star of each contest.
