Hoffman, Poulin and Galiev named TELUS Players of the Month

Press Release

BOUCHERVILLE, Tuesday, December 1, 2009 – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the winners of the offensive, defensive and rookie player of the month awards for November. The players were chosen by a committee mandated by the League.

Mike Hoffman of the Saint John Sea Dogs is the award-winner on offence. In ten games, the 20-year-old forward registered ten goals and ten assists while posting a remarkable +15 rating. Furthermore, four of his tallies wound up being game-winners. Finally, he failed to collect a point in only one contest. Saint John has won its last seventeen games and is closing in on the all-time record (25) held by the Sorel Éperviers (1973-74).

Jacob Lagacé (Saguenéens), Luke Adam (Screaming Eagles) and Sean Couturier (Voltigeurs) were also considered.

Kevin Poulin of the Victoriaville Tigres gets the nod on defence. In nine starts, the goaltender registered eight wins while posting a 2.40 goals-against-average and .914 save percentage. The Montreal native also enjoyed a career-high seven-game winning streak during that span. He faced an average of 28 shots per contest. The Tigres are only one point behind the TELUS Central Division-leading Voltigeurs.

Marc-Antoine Gélinas (Sea Dogs), Mathieu Corbeil-Thériault (Mooseheads) and Jordon Southern (Rocket) were also in the mix.

Stanislav Galiev of the Saint John Sea Dogs is the month’s top rookie. In nine contests, the first overall pick in last July’s CHL Import Draft collected three goals and nine helpers. He also posted a +14 rating. Galiev opened the offensive floodgates during the past four weeks, helping him get a share of the rookie scoring lead (29) with Jakub Culek of the Rimouski Océanic.

Michael Claffey (Cataractes), Olivier Dallaire (Foreurs) and Ryan Bourque (Remparts) also received consideration.
