Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Performers of the Month for November, 2009.
All Weather Windows OHL Player of the Month – Tyler Toffoli, Ottawa 67’s
Tyler Toffoli led the OHL in November scoring with 22 points in 12 games including 11 goals and 11 assists and also registered a plus-minus rating of plus-7 for the Ottawa 67’s. He recorded points in nine of his 12 games played with an impressive seven multi-point games. He was named the Boston Pizza OHL and CHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 22 in a week that included a four-point game with two goals and two assists in a 6-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers. He set a new career-best in his very next game with a five-point performance scoring a hat-trick and two assists in a 6-3 win over the Oshawa Generals on November 27 where he was recognized as first star of the game for the fourth time in the month, leading the 67’s to a November record of 8-2-1-1.
Toffoli, a 17-year-old from Scarborough, ON, is playing in his second OHL season with the 67’s. In 26 games this season he has scored 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points. The 2010 NHL Entry Draft prospect also scored two goals in two games for Team OHL at the 2009 SUBWAY Super Series.
OHL Rookie of the Month – Ivan Telegin, Saginaw Spirit
Ivan Telegin led all OHL rookies in scoring for the second straight month producing 10 points including a team-high eight goals and also contributing two assists in 11 games with a plus-minus rating of plus-6 for the Saginaw Spirit. He scored goals in seven of his 11 games scoring two goals November 6 as third star of a 5-1 win over the Oshawa Generals. His best performance came on November 18 in a 7-5 win over the Owen Sound Attack where he recorded his third three-point game of the season with a goal and two assists as second star of the game.
Telegin, a 17-year-old from Novokuznetsk, Russia, currently leads all OHL rookies in scoring with 18 goals and 13 assists for 31 points in 28 games. His 18 goals have him ranked tied for eighth overall in the league. Eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Telegin was named Player of the Game for Team Russia November 23 at the 2009 SUBWAY Super Series game in Windsor.
OHL Defenceman of the Month – Nick Crawford, Barrie Colts
Nick Crawford scored two goals and 13 assists for 15 points in 11 games in November with a plus-minus rating of plus-13 which was tied for top mark in the league. He recorded points in eight of his 11 games including four multi-point games. His best game of the month came in his debut with the Barrie Colts on November 12 in a 5-0 win over the Sudbury Wolves following a trade from the Saginaw Spirit. He scored a goal and added three assists including the set-up of the game-winner as second star of the game.
Crawford, a 19-year-old from Caledon, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season and is currently ranked second amongst OHL defencemen in scoring with 32 points in 28 games. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, and recorded an assist for Team OHL in the 5-2 win in Windsor at the 2009 SUBWAY Super Series on November 23.
OHL Goaltender of the Month – Peter Di Salvo, Barrie Colts
Peter Di Salvo went a perfect 8-0-0-0 in goal for the Barrie Colts who finished the month of November with a record of 10-0-0-0. He finished the month with a goals-against-average of 1.48 and a save percentage of .946 and recorded one shutout November 12 in a 5-0 win over the Sudbury Wolves where he made 28 saves as first star of the game. He was also recognized as second star of a 6-1 win over the Peterborough Petes with 22 saves on November 14, and was named third star on November 26 in a 5-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack where he made 28 saves.
Di Salvo, a 19-year-old from Oakville, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season and second full season with the Colts after beginning his career with the Sarnia Sting. He has an overall record of 18-4-0-1 this season with a goals-against-average of 2.49 and save percentage of .920 with two shutouts. Di Salvo represented Team OHL November 19 in a 5-2 win at the 2009 SUBWAY Super Series game in Barrie.
