The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the tenth week of the 2009-10 USHL regular season.
Congratulations to forward Reed Seckel of the Green Bay Gamblers, named Reebok Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman Jared Beers of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Carsen Chubak of the Tri-City Storm who earned honors as the USHL Goaltender of the Week.
Seckel registered eight points (3g, 5a) and a plus-four rating as the Gamblers won all three games during the weekend. The 20-year-old scored a goal and dished out four assists in Friday's 7-3 victory over Waterloo. He then registered two goals and one assist in the 4-3 win over Waterloo on Saturday. Seckel's second goal came with just over three minutes remaining in the third period and proved to be the game-winner. The native of Melvin, Michigan is in his second USHL season and is tied for second on the Gamblers in scoring with 19 points (7g, 12a) in 18 games played.
Beers recorded three points (1g, 2a) and a plus-four rating as the RoughRiders earned five of a possible six points in the standings over the weekend. The 19-year-old defenseman scored his fourth goal of the season and collected an assist in Friday's 6-4 victory vs. Sioux Falls. The following evening, he recorded an assist and posted a plus-two rating in the 8-2 win against Des Moines. Beers was a plus-one in the 2-1 shootout loss to Green Bay on Sunday. The native of Mishawaka, Indiana has recorded eight points (4g, 4a) in 22 games for the RoughRiders this season.
Chubak posted a 1.92 goals-against-average and a .937 save percentage in two starts for the Storm during the weekend. The 20-year-old goaltender made 29 saves in Friday's 6-2 victory over Lincoln to help Tri-City snap their 10-game winless streak. Chubak made 30 saves through regulation and overtime before the Storm fell to Team USA in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss. The native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan is playing in his first USHL season and has posted a 7-6-5 record for Tri-City.
