Regina, SK – 24 hours after making a multi-player deal with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the Regina Pats have made another trade, this time with the Vancouver Giants.
The Pats have acquired 19 year old left winger Cass Mappin, 17 year old defenceman Mitch Spooner and 17 year old forward Mikael Jung from the Giants. In exchange, the Pats send 17 year old goaltender Derek Tendler, a fifth round Bantam Draft pick in 2011 and the Pats 1st round selection in the 2010 CHL Import Draft.
Mappin is a native Big Valley, AB and was originally a 1st round WHL Bantam Draft pick of the Red Deer Rebels in 2005. The Giants acquired Mappin from the Rebels on September 29th in exchange for Andrej Kudrna. With the Rebels/Giants this season, Mappin has 4 goals and 10 assists in 26 games.
Spooner, who hails from Port Moody, B.C., is in his first full season in the WHL. He was a first round WHL Bantam pick of the Giants in 2007 and so far this season, Spooner has 3 points in 20 games.
Jung is from Nanaimo, B.C. and was a 6th round WHL Bantam Draft pick of the Giants in 2007. With the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL, Jung has 6 goals and 3 assists in 27 games.
