Deschamps, Allen and Gusse named TELUS Players of the Month

BOUCHERVILLE, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the award-winners of the offensive, defensive and rookie player of the month awards for February. The players were chosen by a committee mandated by the League.

Nicolas Deschamps is the award-winner on offence. In eleven games, the Moncton Wildcats forward registered eight goals, including three game-winners, and added fourteen assists. Moreover, he posted a +7 rating. His offensive output, which reached two points per game, certainly played an important role in the team’s record as the Wildcats collected points in nine of their eleven contests.

Jordan Caron (Huskies), Luke Adam (Screaming Eagles) and Gabriel Dumont (Voltigeurs) also received consideration.

Jake Allen gets the nod on defence after recording eleven wins in twelve starts, including two by shutout. The Fredericton native posted a 1.59 goals-against-average and .945 save percentage during that span. Mario Duhamel’s Voltigeurs really tightened things up on defence, allowing a league-low 1.6 goals per game over the four-week period.

Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc (Huskies), David Savard (Wildcats) and Charles Landry (Voltigeurs) were also in the mix.

Robin Gusse receives rookie of the month honours. In nine games, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens goaltender registered five wins with only two losses while posting a 2.74 goals-against-average and .902 save percentage. Furthermore, he earned two shutouts and limited opponents to three goals or less in seven of his nine appearances.

Petr Straka (Océanic), Jess Tanguy (MAINEiacs) and Adam Polasek (Rocket) were also in the race.
