Ste-Marie earns BCHL Player of the Week nod with great 1st round

Press Release

Quesnel Millionaires forward Darick Ste-Marie has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending March 7th, the league announced Monday.

Ste-Marie helped the Millionaires to their first-ever BCHL playoff series win, keying an upset over the fourth-seeded Salmon Arm SilverBacks with 10 points in the final four contests of a six-game series win.

Last Thursday, in a pivotal Game 5 on the road, the 19-year-old Quebec native tallied a hat-trick and added an assist to lead Quesnel to a decisive 8-1 victory. The next evening, Ste-Marie added another four-point effort to his playoff credentials to bring the quarter-final series to a close.

Prior to the quarter-finals, Ste-Marie had only recorded two four-point games the entire 2009/2010 regular season, but he has stepped up big for the Millionaires with two already in the franchise's first postseason appearance since 2003.

After their opening-round series win over Salmon Arm, the Millionaires, led by Ste-Marie, now face off against the nation's top-ranked team, the Vernon Vipers. The Interior semi-final begins Tuesday night at the Wesbild Centre in Vernon.
