Stickland named Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Michael Stickland of the Swift Current Broncos.

Stickland picked up seven points, scoring two goals and five assists to go with a +4 rating, in two games over the past week, helping the Broncos post a 2-0 record in that span.

On Friday, February 26th, the Broncos hosted WHL East Division rivals the Regina Pats. Stickland scored two goals and two assists in the 6-4 win over the Pats and was named the games 2nd Star. The next evening, Saturday, February 27th, the BC Division leading Vancouver Giants rolled into the Credit Union i-plex to face the Broncos. Stickland picked up three assists and was named the games 1st Star as the Broncos downed the Giants 5-3.

Stickland’s seven points over the last two games has him sitting 5th in Broncos team scoring with 48 points (20 goals, 28 assists) in 63 games played. The Swift Current Broncos have won five of their last seven games and currently sit eighth in the WHL Eastern Conference with a 33-29-0-4 record for 70 points.

Stickland, a 20 year-old from Red Deer, Alberta, is in his fourth full year in the Western Hockey League. Originally listed by the Kootenay Ice prior to the 2006-07 season, Stickland has gone onto appear in 261 WHL regular season games accumulating 163 points (73 goals, 90 assists).

The WHL has also nominated Jeff Bosch of the Moose Jaw Warriors for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Bosch posted a 3-0-0-0 record this past week with one shut-out, stopping 99 of 104 shots faced for a 1.670 goals-against average and 0.952 save percentage. Bosch, a native of Martensville, Saskatchewan, has appeared in 49 games this season posting a 23-18-3-2 record thus far.
