CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Brandon Kozun of the Calgary Hitmen.
Kozun picked up four points, scoring one goal and three assists to go with a +4 rating in two games over the last week, helping the Calgary Hitmen open up the 2010 WHL Championship Series with two victories over the Tri-City Americans.
Games one and two of the 2010 WHL Championship Series went at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary on Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st. In game one Kozun picked up a goal and assist as the Calgary downed the Tri-City Americans 7-0 to take a 1-0 series lead. In game two Kozun had a pair of assists, as the Hitmen jump out to a 2-0 series lead in the WHL Championship Series with a 4-1 win over the Americans.
The 2010 WHL Championship Series now shifts to Tri-City with the Hitmen holding a 2-0 edge on the Americans. Games three and four are set for the Toyota Center in Kennewick, WA on Tuesday, May 4th and Wednesday, May 5th at 7:00 pm PT. For ticket information visit www.whl.ca/tickets.
Kozun, a 19-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, is in his third full season with the Calgary Hitmen. The 2009 NHL Draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings led all WHL scorers this season to capture the Bob Clarke Trophy with 32 goals and 107 points.
The WHL has also nominated Martin Jones of the Calgary Hitmen for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Jones posted a 2-0 record this past week with one shut-out, stopping 47 of 48 shots faced for a 0.500 goals-against average and 0.979 save percentage. Jones, a 19-year-old from Vancouver, British Columbia, is currently playing his fourth season with the Calgary Hitmen and was recently named the 2010 recipient of the Del Wilson Trophy as the WHL’s Top Goaltender.
