Spitfires’ Mark Cundari Named Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that defenceman Mark Cundari of the Windsor Spitfires is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week following the first three games of the Rogers OHL Championship Series. Cundari led the way with five points including two goals and three assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Cundari recorded a point in all three games of the Rogers OHL Championship Series helping the Spitfires grab a 3-0 series lead over the Barrie Colts. He netted a late third period goal to tie the score in Game 1 which set the stage for a 4-3 overtime win last Tuesday night as second star of the game. In Game 2 on Thursday night he was named first star of the game after opening the scoring with a shorthanded goal plus added two assists in the 5-4 win. He contributed a second period assist in the 5-2 Game 3 win on Sunday afternoon. The Spitfires will have a chance to capture the Robertson Cup on home ice when the series resumes with Game 4 on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm at the WFCU Centre.

Cundari, a 20-year-old from Woodbridge, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the Spitfires. After the best offensive regular season of his career with 54 points in 63 games, Cundari is ranked 14th in playoff scoring with 18 points in 18 games and has a league-high plus-minus rating of plus-20.

The Spitfires’ Adam Henrique was also considered after scoring four goals in three games highlighted by a hat-trick performance as second star of a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon. The Colts’ Kyle Clifford leads his club with three goals in three games so far in the Rogers OHL Championship Series. In goal, Philipp Grubauer has opened the series with three straight wins posting a goals-against-average of 2.97 and save percentage of .920.
