Dion Commits to University of Alabama Huntsville

Press Release

The Okotoks Oilers are pleased to announce that 19 year old forward Cody Dion has committed to the University of Alabama Huntsville (Chargers), a Division 1 school, in Huntsville, Alabama, for the 2010/11 season.

Cody is from Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he played his minor hockey prior to joining the Oilers for the 2008/09. During his 2 years with the Oilers, Cody developed into one of the premier face off specialists in the League, and together with his size (6’4”), strength, and above average offensive abilities made him a player who excelled in all situations on the ice.

Oilers GM/Head Coach Garry VanHereweghe stated, “Cody is one of those players who posses all the tools that could propel him to great heights in the hockey world. He leaves a void in the Oilers lineup that will be very difficult to fill. We are very excited for Cody, and on behalf of the Okotoks Oilers Hockey Club, we wish him success as he moves forward with his hockey and academic pursuits”.

Cody joins Jordan Principalli (Adrian College), John McInnis (Minnesota State University), Brandon Hoogenboom (St. Norbert College), and Chris Duszynski (Norwich University), as the most recent NCAA commitments that bring the number to 9 Oiler players from the 2009/10 team who have committed to NCAA schools for the 2010/11 season. The Okotoks Oilers Hockey Club is proud of these player accomplishments and will continue to strive for academic and athletic excellence.
