Phillips Commits to UMass

Indiana Ice defenseman Adam Phillips has committed to the University of Massachusetts and will attend the school beginning this fall.

One of the tallest players in the League, the 6-6 blueliner collected 12 points (1g, 11a) in 47 games during his first USHL season in 2009-10. Phillips recorded his first point, an assist on the game-winning goal, in just his third USHL game, a 7-0 victory vs. Waterloo on October 31st. He followed that up with a two-assist performance in his next game, a 4-2 win over Sioux City. The 19-year-old from Farmington Hills, Michigan also appeared in nine playoff games for the Ice.

Five other USHL players from the 2009-10 season are also committed to UMass; Troy Power (Omaha Lancers), Jeff Teglia (Omaha Lancers), John Parker (Indiana Ice), Sioux Falls Stampede Conor Allen (Sioux Falls Stampede), and Chris DelMauro (Lincoln Stars).

The UMass Minutemen are members of Hockey East and had 11 former USHL players on the roster this past season; Justin Braun (Green Bay Gamblers), Rocco Carzo (Des Moines Buccaneers), Danny Hobbs (Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets), Brian Keane (Chicago Steel), James Marcou (Waterloo Black Hawks), Michael Marcou (Waterloo Black Hawks), Eddie Olczyk (Waterloo Black Hawks), Darren Rowe (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), T.J. Snyder (Indiana Ice), Brett Watson (Tri-City Storm), and Casey Wellman (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders).
