Phantoms Trade for Goalie

Press Release

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Phantoms have had a busy Monday after coming off of a 5-1 pre season win over Chicago this past Saturday.

The Phantoms have acquired Tri-City Storm goalie Matt Green, in exchange for a conditional draft pick in this year's USHL Entry Draft. Green will fill the role voided by Jordan Tibbett's departure to Mercyhurst College.

Green put up impressive numbers last year while he was a member of the last place Lincoln Stars. He finished the year with only nine wins but posted a 2.99 goals against average, a .899 save percentage, and he recorded four shutouts during the campaign.

"With Jordan leaving," said Head Coach Curtis Carr, "we needed to fill a void and he does that and much more for us. He has experience in the league and the numbers he put up last year were very impressive while playing in Lincoln."

The Phantoms have added locker room experience but they have dealt some away at the same time. The Chicago Steel must have seen something they like as they have exchanged their 3rd round pick in this year's USHL Entry Draft for Phantom defenseman Dan Senkbeil.

When asked if there were any concerns with the experience in the locker room Carr responded, "We have a lot of leadership in our locker room and we expect some of the new players to step up and take some leadership roles. Our new USHL level players are new to this league, but they are not new in being leaders, they know how to lead and they know how to win. With that said, we would like to thank Dan for his time spent here is Youngstown. He is a great player and an even better individual. We wish him nothing but the best in his bright future."

Green will dawn the purple and orange for the first time this weekend against Team USA and the Phantoms fans will see him at home for the first time on Opening Night against the Green Bay Gamblers on October 16th. Dan Senkbeil will face his old teammates for the first time on October 2nd when the Phantoms travel to Chicago for their second game of the year. He returns to the Covelli Centre on Feb. 18th.
