QMJHL in mourning following loss of Gervais

SAGUENAY, Monday, September 6, 2010 – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League family is in mourning today following the passing of Chicoutimi Saguenéens Governor Gervais Munger at the age of 52. Mr. Munger had been missing since Saturday due to a boating accident.

"We are all under a state of schock and are extremely saddened by this terrible news," said QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau. "The QMJHL has lost one of its pillars. Gervais Munger was an important part of the QMJHL, acting both as Governor of the Saguenéens franchise and as First Vice-President of our Board of Governors. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."

Gervais Munger played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, from 1976-77 to 1978-79, registering 29 goals and 61 assists in 117 games. He was the Governor of the franchise for over 10 years (September 12, 2000).

The entire Quebec Major Junior Hockey League family extends its deepest condolences to his family.
