Silvertips' Sign first pick Ryan Chynoweth

Press Release

Everett, WA – Everett Silvertips Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert announced Thursday that the Silvertips have signed forward Ryan Chynoweth to a WHL Educational Contract.

Chynoweth, 15, was Everett’s first pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, selected 24th overall. A native of Cranbrook, British Columbia, he recorded 60 points on 21 goals and 39 assists and 78 penalty minutes in 32 games with the AAA Bantam Lethbridge Golden Hawks last season and added another two points with the South Senators in the Alberta Cup. Standing 5’11 and weighing 160 pounds, Ryan is the son of Kootenay Ice General Manager Jeff Chynoweth and grandson of former WHL Commissioner Ed Chynoweth, of whom the Ed Chynoweth Cup (WHL Championship trophy) and the Ed Chynoweth Trophy (Memorial Cup leading scorer) are named.

The 1995-born Chynoweth was a consistent scorer at Rookie Camp, finishing second amongst all 94- and 95-born Silvertips prospects with ten points on six goals and four assists over six games.

“We’re very pleased to have Ryan join our organization,” Soetaert said. “He brings solid character, skill, and great passion to his game, which exemplifies what we are looking for in a Silvertip. He has definitely earned this educational contract with the hard work that he has put in over the last several years.”
