Press Release
Youngstown Phantoms goaltender Jordan Tibbett has committed to Mercyhurst College and will join the men's hockey program this fall.
"All my hard work has paid off," said Tibbett. "I'm really happy to see it all come together and I am very excited to have this opportunity."
The native of Indianapolis, Indiana appeared in 33 games for the Phantoms during their inaugural USHL season in 2009-10 and posted an 11-19-1 record. Tibbett first broke into the USHL as a 16-year-old during the 2006-07 season, splitting the year between the Omaha Lancers and Des Moines Buccaneers. He won four of his first five starts in the League.
"For Jordan it was a matter of when," said Youngstown Phantoms Head Coach Curtis Carr. "He would have been one of the top goalies in this league this year, but to compete for the number one goalie spot on the college level is something not too many people would pass on. We are happy for Jordan."
Tibbett will join Phantoms teammate Taylor Holstrom who also begins his freshman season at Mercyhurst this fall. Three other USHL players from the 2009-10 are committed to attend Mercyhurst; Nate Jensen (Tri-City Storm), Dan O'Donoghue (Des Moines Buccaneers), and Ryan Misiak (Sioux Falls Stampede).
Mercyhurst College is located in Erie, Pennsylvania and is a member of the Atlantic Hockey Association. Nine former USHL players were on the roster for the Mercyhurst College Lakers in 2009-10; Ryan Raven (Chicago Steel), Patrick Goebel (Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets), Mike Gurtler (Indiana Ice), Derek Elliott (Des Moines Buccaneers), Grant Blakey (Indiana Ice), Phil Ginand (Tri-City Storm), Charlie Carkin (Tri-City Storm), Brandon Coccimiglio (Chicago Steel), and Max Strang (Sioux Falls Stampede).
"We are very excited that Jordan is joining our hockey team," said Mercyhurst head coach Rick Gotkin. "We are not only adding a terrific goalie, but an exceptional young man. He comes from a great program and he adds a ton of depth to our roster. He will immediately challenge for the number one spot in net."
