Jr. A Trappers forward JP Kascsak scored on a turnover in the final 30 seconds of the game on Soo Thunderbirds goalie Michael Doan to break a 4-4 tie as he led Team East to a 5-4 win over Team West in Game two for the NOJHL All-Stars at the OJHL Governor’s Cup College Showcase Tournament in Aurora, Ontario during the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Soo Eagles Brian Depp, Soo Thunderbirds Jerry Petingalo and Colby Spoonemore and Blind River Beavers forward Andrew Trecrose helped stake the Western squad to a 4-3 lead after the 2nd period.
Eskis star forward Josh Clancy netted a pair of goals for the Eastern squad. Jr. A Trappers defenceman Sacha Guimond blasted home a power play goal in the second stanza and Jr. Wolves’ Jason Lacroix beat Doan midway through the 3rd period to tie the game at 4-4 before Kascsak’s late game winner.
Temiscaming Royals forward Andre Leclair added 2 assists for Team East.
Alexander Laino got the win going the distance for Team East. Doan and Manitoulin Islanders young goaltender Avery Allen split the duties for Team West.
Team East edged Team West 3-2 the night before in their first meeting in the showcase tournament. The event hosted by the Aurora Tigers Jr. A Hockey Club, involves OJHL teams and for the first time ever NOJHL All-Star squads were invited to attend the 3 day event.
The NOJHL All-Stars were comprised of the top 20 players from each conference.
