The Indiana Ice announced that goaltender Casey DeSmith has committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of New Hampshire following his USHL career.
The native of Rochester, New Hampshire will be returning to his home state when he advances to the collegiate level. DeSmith is currently playing in his second USHL season and has picked up four wins, two of which have been by shutout to lead all USHL goaltenders. He ranks second in the League with a .943 save percentage and has posted a 1.86 goals-against-average in seven appearances this season.
DeSmith, who won 11 games during his first USHL season in 2009-10, was recently named as one of 22 USHL players to the U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete in the 2010 World Junior A Challenge.
Five other USHL players are committed to attend the University of New Hampshire following their USHL careers; Cody Campbell (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Jay Camper (Chicago Steel), Casey Thrush (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Maxim Gaudreault (Sioux City Musketeers), and Jamie Hill (Waterloo Black Hawks).
The University of New Hampshire Wildcats are a member of Hockey East and have 15 USHL alumni on the roster for the 2010-11 season; Eric Knodel (Des Moines Buccaneers), Dalton Speelman (Green Bay Gamblers), Scott Pavelski (Waterloo Black Hawks), Justin Agosta (Indiana Ice), Mike Borisenok (Green Bay Gamblers), Brett Kostolansky (Chicago Steel), Jeff Silengo (Sioux City Musketeers), Mike Sislo (Green Bay Gamblers), Blake Kessel (Waterloo Black Hawks), Nick Sorkin (Sioux City Musketeers), Mike Beck (Sioux City Musketeers), Greg Burke (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Kevin Goumas (Indiana Ice), Matt DiGirolamo (Waterloo Black Hawks), and Phil DeSimone (Sioux City Musketeers).
