FERRARO SIGNS WITH DETROIT RED WINGS

Press Release

The Detroit Red Wings announced on Tuesday that center Landon Ferraro has been signed to a three-year entry level contract.

The captain of the Everett Silvertips, Ferraro, 19, has opened the season with 11 points on five goals and six assists in 13 games. He was selected in the second round, 32nd overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings following a 37-goal season with the Rebels in 2008-09 and was originally drafted second overall in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft. Standing 6'0 and weighing 170 pounds, the Vancouver, BC native has accumulated 136 points on 71 goals and 65 assists in 192 WHL games and was a participant in the 2009 CHL Home Hardware Top Prospects Game, earning the Fastest Skater Award at the 2009 CHL Home Hardware Top Prospects Skills Competition. He appeared in two AHL games with the Grand Rapids Griffins at the conclusion of the 2009-10 season.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling to sign my first contract. It’s something I’ve worked hard for and I’m proud to get an opportunity to play for the Detroit Red Wings,” Ferraro said. “Now it’s time to focus solely on this season, and helping the Silvertips to be the best we possibly can be.”

Ferraro is the sixth Silvertip to sign a contract with an NHL club over the last three seasons, joining Taylor Ellington, Kellan Tochkin, Thomas Heemskerk, Shane Harper and Radko Gudas.
