NAHL announces Players of the Week

The North American Hockey League (NAHL) has announced its Players of the Week, sponsored by SBK Hockey, for the week ending Nov. 7.

SBK HOCKEY/NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mike Monfredo - Motor City Metal Jackets

Motor City defenseman Mike Monfredo tallied two goals and an assist as the Metal Jackets skated to a two-game sweep over Chicago. On Friday, the Shirley, N.Y., native registered a goal in an 8-3 triumph. The next night, the 20-year-old added another goal and an assist as the Metal Jackets bested the Hitmen, 5-2. The Top Prospects Tournament selection was also a plus-4 on the weekend.

“Mike continues to progress steadily as a well-rounded defenseman who's an imposing physical presence night in and night out,” said Metal Jackets head coach David Cole. “He’s a leader on and off the ice and will be a welcome addition to a Division I program.”

SBK HOCKEY/SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jackson Leef - Texas Tornado

Texas forward Jackson Leef put home two goals and an assist as the Tornado celebrated a two-game sweep over New Mexico to extend its winning streak to 12 games. On Friday, the Fort Wayne, Ind., native connected for the game-winning goal in a 5-0 victory. The next night, the 18-year-old notched another goal and added an assist as the Tornado downed the Mustangs, 3-1. He was also a plus-5 for the weekend.

“Jackson has received a lot of interest from Division I schools and, in a short period of time, has become one of the dominant players in this league,” said Tornado head coach Tony Curtale. “He has great speed and creativity for his size (6-foot, 186 pounds) and he’s only going to get better."

SBK HOCKEY/CENTRAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nikolaj Rosenthal - Bismarck Bobcats

Bismarck forward Nikolaj Rosenthal connected for two goals and two assists as the Bobcats celebrated a two-game sweep over Owatonna. On Friday, the Springfield, Ill., native picked up a goal in regulation in a 3-2 shootout victory. The next night, the 19-year-old rang up the game-winning marker in overtime and a pair of assists as the Bobcats edged the Express, 4-3. He was also a plus-3 for the weekend.

“Coming straight out of an open (tryout) camp to becoming a top-line guy for us, Nikolaj has been a great surprise for our club,” said Bobcats head coach Layne Sedevie. “He’s extremely skilled and has been working hard and is getting rewarded for it.”

SBK HOCKEY/WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Voigt - Fairbanks Ice Dogs

Fairbanks forward Tyler Voigt struck for three goals and three assists as the Ice Dogs fashioned a 2-1 mark against Fresno. On Wednesday, the Rochester, Minn., native tallied a goal in a 3-2 loss. Two nights later, the 19-year-old put home a goal and an assist as the Ice Dogs bested the Monsters, 4-3. On Saturday, Voigt added another goal and two more assists, including one on Matt Millis’ game-winning marker, in a 6-5 triumph.

“Tyler’s a great worker who plays hard for us every night,” said Ice Dogs head coach Josh Hauge. “He had a big weekend for us when we needed him to step up and we’re counting on more solid efforts from him down the road.”

SBK HOCKEY/GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Robert Tadazak - Michigan Warriors

Michigan goaltender Robert Tadazak backstopped the Warriors to a two-game sweep over Traverse City, turning aside 70 of 71 shots. On Friday, the Lapeer, Mich., native made all 37 saves in a 4-0 victory. The next night, the 20-year-old stopped 33 shots as the Warriors downed the North Stars, 3-1.

“In his final season as a junior player, Robert has worked very hard this year in becoming a better goalie,” said Warriors head coach Moe Mantha. “He made saves at the right time last weekend to give our team a chance to win both nights.”
