Rangers’ Akeson Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Jason Akeson of the Kitchener Rangers is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 7. In three games the forward recorded 15 points including three goals and 12 assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-7.

Akeson’s week was highlighted by a six-point game on Friday night where he scored two goals and added four assists as first star of an 8-0 win over the Belleville Bulls. He was also named second star of the game twice including Thursday night with a five-point game scoring a goal and an assist in an 8-2 win over the London Knights, followed by a four-point game on Sunday with four assists in a 5-4 win over the Knights.

Akeson, a 20-year-old from Orleans, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the Rangers. He currently leads the OHL in scoring with 34 points in 17 games including nine goals and 25 assists.

Mitchell Callahan of the Kelowna Rockets was also considered after recording 12 points in four games including five goals and seven assists leading the Rockets to a 4-0-0-0 record. In the QMJHL, Etienne Brodeur of the Lewiston MAINEiacs scored three goals and three assists for six points in three games.
