Rebels’ Kudrna Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Andrej Kudrna of the Red Deer Rebels is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 31 after scoring four goals and three assists for seven points in two games.

Kudrna helped the Rebels pick up two wins against some of the WHL’s top teams this week including Friday night against his former team the Vancouver Giants. His one goal and two assists earned second star honours in the 5-2 win. One night later Kudrna would lead the Rebels’ offense against the Saskatoon Blades netting his fourth career hat-trick while adding an assist as first star of the 7-1 win.

Kudrna, a 19-year-old from Nove Zamsky, Slovakia, is playing in his third WHL season. He is currently tied for fourth in league scoring with 24 points in 16 games scoring 12 goals and 12 assists. He was originally chosen 58th overall by the Giants in the 2008 CHL Import Draft.

Justin Shugg of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors was also considered for the award this week after scoring five goals and three assists for eight points in three games. In the QMJHL, Philip-Michaël Devos of the Victoriaville Tigres had five points in two games scoring three goals and two assists.
