ICE SWAP FORWARD FOR TALENTED DEFENSEMAN RUSSO

Press Release

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Ice announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Brandon Russo (ROO-so) from the Youngstown Phantoms for forward Alex Gacek. The Ice also received goaltender Dalton Izyk who will be placed on the team’s affiliate list and future considerations.

Russo was the top-scoring defenseman for the Phantoms with eight points (G, 7A) in 14 games of work. He played last year for the Salisbury School in Connecticut and was a teammate of Ice goaltender Jon Gillies. Former Ice forward and current Boston College standout Paul Carey also was a product of that prestigious prep school.

“We identified Brandon last year as a player we had interest in,” said Ice VP of Player Personnel Brad Lutsch. “He is a good power play guy with some grit who competes hard night in and night out. We have got to see a lot of him the last few years as he has played with a lot of our former players out on the east coast.”

Along with Gillies, Izyk is one of the top 1994 birth year goaltenders in the country and he is spending this season with the Green Mountain Glades of the East Coast Junior Hockey League.

Russo, a native of Fairfield, CT, will wear #28 and is expected to be in the line-up this weekend when the team hosts the Chicago Steel and the Team USA U-17 squad on Friday and Saturday at the St. Vincent Sports Rink at Pepsi Coliseum. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. both nights.

Individual tickets for all home games start as low as $10 and there is a $2 discount for children 10 and under and seniors 62 and over. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-745-3000, online at ticketmaster.com or by visiting select Wal-Mart and Simon Mall locations, the Pepsi Coliseum or Conseco Fieldhouse box offices.
