LETHBRIDGE HURRICANES: Acquire Kizuik

Press Release

Lethbridge, AB – Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager/Head Coach, Rich Preston, announced this afternoon the Canes have traded one of their two picks sixth round of the 2011 WHL Bantam draft to the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for 92-born defenseman Tyler Kizuik. The 6’2, 190 pound d-man from Indian Head, SK was originally drafted by the Prince George Cougars in the third round (54th overall) in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft. He was later acquired by the Blades in 2009 in exchange for a conditional sixth round pick in 2011. Kizuik is in his second WHL season after posting nine points (2G,7A) in 48 games last season – his rookie year.

The move gives the Hurricanes seven defensemen on their current 23 man roster while Kiziuk immediately adds another body to the Canes stable of 92-born defensemen including the likes of Daniel Johnston, Derek Ryckman and Landon Oslanski. Lethbridge also still holds four picks in the first two rounds of the 2011 WHL Draft – this a year after making four selections in the first two round of the 2010 WHL Draft.

Kizuik is expected to join the Hurricanes in Lethbridge in time for Sunday’s match up with the Medicine Hat Tigers.
