Red, White and Blacker

Press Release

The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that defenseman Jesse Blacker has been added to Team Canada’s World Junior Team Selection Camp that is slated to begin in Toronto this coming weekend.

Blacker, a 19 year old rearguard from Toronto, ON currently sits 3rd amongst Ontario Hockey League Defenseman in scoring with 7 goals and 20 assists in 27 games played. The Toronto Maple Leafs 2nd Round Draft Pick in 2009 was initially left off the Selection Camp Roster, however; an injury to Brandon Gormley of the Moncton Wildcats, combined with Blacker’s stellar play over the past four games since the roster was announced (1G, 6A, +4) has warranted an invite to the Selection Camp.

Blacker’s invite to the Selection Camp means that three members of the Attack (Hishon, Wilson) will be given a shot to crack the Canadian World Junior Team Entry. Not only does this mark the first time that the Owen Sound Attack have been represented at the Selection Camp since Adam Mair (then Platers) took part, it means that Owen Sound Attack is the only team that will send three players to the selection camp.

“I believe this is a huge testament to the job that our coaching staff has done.”, said Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “All three of these kids are world class players and offer something different to the team. We wish them nothing but the best of luck.”

Blacker, Hishon and Wilson will all take part in Friday night’s contest against the Kitchener Rangers before departing for the Selection Camp, which is being held in nearby Toronto ON.
