Storm’s Scheirhorn Commits to Dartmouth

Press Release

The Tri-City Storm announced that forward Brad Schierhorn has made his commitment official to play hockey at Dartmouth College following his USHL career.

Schierhorn, 18, has recorded seven points (5g, 2a) in 15 games during his rookie USHL season. Two of his goals this season have been game-winners, including his first career USHL goal during just his second game in the League, a 5-3 win over Youngstown on October 9th.

"I wanted to go to an excellent medical school that had solid academics overall," said Schierhorn, who is a native of Anchorage, Alaska. "They are building an excellent hockey program and will be a good program to be a part of in the future."

Dartmouth is a NCAA Division I college hockey program located in Hanover, New Hampshire and competes in the ECAC hockey conference. Schierhorn joins Storm teammates Rick Pinkston and Brian Ward who are also committed to Dartmouth.

"Both Pinkston and Ward said great things about the program, and that helped me make my decision," said Schierhorn. "They didn't really push me in the decision, but were helpful in the process."

Three other current USHL players also have plans to attend the school; Andy Simpson (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Tim O'Brien (Sioux City Musketeers), and Brett Patterson (Sioux City Musketeers).

"We are excited to see Brad get this opportunity to play at an Ivy League school such as Dartmouth," said Head Coach/General Manager Drew Schoneck. "He's played really well for us lately, and we are glad that Dartmouth recognized it as well."

Dartmouth has 11 USHL alumni on the roster for the 2010-11 season; Taylor Boldt (Indiana Ice), Jason Bourgea (Indiana Ice), Mark Goggin (Chicago Steel), Doug Jones (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Matt Lindblad (Sioux Falls Stampede/Chicago Steel), Danny Markowitz (Tri-City Storm/Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets), Troy Mattila (Chicago Steel/Tri-City Storm), Cab Morris (Indiana Ice), Kyle Reeds (Waterloo Black Hawks), Eric Robinson (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), and Even Stephens (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders/Sioux Falls Stampede).
