Team USA wins rehearsal

Press Release

JAMESTOWN, USA – The U.S. defeated newly promoted Norway in their last exhibition game before hosting the 2011 IIHF World U20 Championship in Buffalo and Niagara, New York.

The victory came in right time for the U.S. after suffering two straight shootout losses in exhibition games against college team Rensselaer and the Czech Republic.

The game was played in Jamestown, N.Y. where Russia beat Slovakia 6-2 in another exhibition game.

Chris Brown opened the scoring on a rebound at 2:35. Norway could hardly create scoring chances until Magnus Lindahl escaped for a breakaway eight minutes into the first period, but U.S. netminder Jack Campbell caught the puck while Ryan Bourque scored on the counter-attack. With 0.3 seconds left in the first period, the Americans made it a 4-0 affair.

Justin Faulk extended the lead with the only goal in the second period. 5:08 into the third period, Rasmus Juell scored Norway’s consolation goal on a two-man advantage. Jerry D’Amigo made it 6-1 with five minutes left.

The reigning U20 world champion will open the tournament against Finland on December 26 at 20:00. At 16:00, also at the HSBC Arena, Canada will face Russia. The other two games include rivalries between neighbouring countries – Germany vs. Switzerland and Norway vs. Sweden.
