Press Release
Prince George Spruce Kings forward RJay Berra has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 9, the league announced Tuesday.
Thanks to Berra, the Spruce Kings are off to a bright start in 2011 as he helped the team to back-to-back overtime wins.
The Prince George native scored the double-overtime winner and wound up with two goals and an assist in a 5-4 win over the Quesnel Millionaires Friday. He followed up the next night by ensuring overtime with a penalty shot tally and added another helper in another 5-4 win, this time over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
The 6-foot, 190-pound captain's efforts led the Spruce Kings to consecutive wins for the first time since the end of October and put Prince George into double digits in the win column.
Honourable mentions this week go to Penticton Vees defenceman Joey Laleggia who helped his team to two straight wins over Surrey with three goals and two assists, Powell River forward Teagan Waugh who also produced three goals and two assists in his team's two wins and Langley goalie Wyatt Galley who earned both his team's road wins by making 92 saves on 97 shots for a .948 save percentage.
