JOHNSON NAMED HUSKY WHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH

CALGARY, AB. – The Western Hockey League announced today that forward Tyler Johnson, of the Spokane Chiefs, has been named the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for December.

The 20 year-old forward from Spokane, WA led all WHL scorers collected 22 points through the month of December finding the net 11 times and accumulating 11 assists to go along with a +6 rating. Johnson collected points in 10 of 12 games which included seven multi-point games and three game winning goals. Some highlights include Johnson scoring his third career hat-trick against the Seattle Thunderbirds and the first six point effort of his WHL career in a victory over the Kamloops Blazers.

Johnson’s 22 points through the December has him ranked 2nd among all WHL scorers with 58 points (27 goals, 31 assists) in 36 games played. His consistent play also led the Spokane Chiefs to a 9-1-1-0 record through the month, which included a six game win streak. The Chiefs now find themselves third in the WHL Western Conference with a 22-10-3-2 record for 49 points, just four back of the Conference leading Portland Winterhawks. Johnson’s efforts also earned him a Three Star selection six times, with two being 1st Stars.

Johnson is playing his fourth season with the Chiefs who made the hometown product their 11th round selection at the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft. He has since gone on to appear in 231 WHL games gathering 102 goals, 123 assists for 225 career points, all while maintaining a +70 plus/minus rating.

His accomplishments make Tyler Johnson a deserving choice as the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for December.
