Guy Carbonneau takes over bench duties in Chicoutimi

Press Release

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens today confirmed that Guy Carbonneau will take over as head coach of the franchise. Marc-Étienne Hubert had taken over since the organization dismissed Richard Martel. He maintained a perfect 3-0 record during his tenure as interim head coach.

Guy Carbonneau will make his debut on Wednesday in Val-d’Or as the Saguenéens begin a three-game road trip. It will be his first crack as a head coach in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League after a near three-year stint as head coach of the storied Montreal Canadiens franchise (2006-2009). He posted a 124-83-23 record in just under three seasons with the NHL club.

Moreover, the Saguenéens named Marc Desforges as their new representative at the QMJHL Board of Governors. League rules forbid a head coach from active duty at the Board of Governors.

Finally, Jos Canale takes over as General Manager until the end of the season.
