Herd Goaltender Commits to Minnesota State

The Sioux Falls Stampede announced that goaltender Stephon Williams has committed to play collegiate hockey at Minnesota State University, Mankato following his USHL career.

The 17-year-old has compiled a 14-3-4 during his first USHL season. He has won each of his last seven starts, posting a 1.70 goals-against-average and .939 save percentage during that stretch. Williams recently earned recognition as the USHL Goaltender of the Week in consecutive weeks. The native of Fairbanks, Alaska joined the Stampede after being selected in the 2010 USHL Entry Draft.

Five other current USHL players are committed to attend Minnesota State; Jean-Paul LaFontaine (Green Bay Gamblers), Brett Stern (Green Bay Gamblers), Max Gaede (Sioux City Musketeers), Zach Palmquist (Waterloo Black Hawks), and Dylan Margonari (Youngstown Phantoms).

The Minnesota State Mavericks are a member of the WCHA and have 16 USHL alumni currently on the roster; Channing Boe (Green Bay Gamblers/Sioux Falls Stampede), J.P. Burkemper (Fargo Force/Des Moines Buccaneers), Cameron Cooper (Tri-City Storm), Kurt Davis (Green Bay Gamblers/Waterloo Black Hawks), Michael Dorr (Des Moines Buccaneers), Tyler Elbrecht (Omaha Lancers), Rylan Galiardi (Sioux City Musketeers), Chase Grant (Fargo Force), Eriah Hayes (Waterloo Black Hawks), Danny Heath (Des Moines Buccaneers/Tri-City Storm), Zach Lehrke (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Corey Leivermann (Fargo Force), Brett Peterson (Indiana Ice), Andy Sackrison (Tri-City Storm), Joe Schiller (Green Bay Gamblers), and Eli Zucker (Tri-City Storm). In addition, Mavericks associate head coach Darren Blue played in the USHL and assistant coach Todd Knott both played and coached in the USHL.
