Schedule released for 2011 Fred Page Cup presented by BC Hydro Power Smart

Press Release

The British Columbia Hockey League is pleased to announce the schedule for the 2011 Fred Page Cup presented by BC Hydro Power Smart. Teams will begin their quest for the BCHL title on Friday, Feb. 25 and BC Hydro is the title sponsor for the playoffs for the second straight season.

“We are thrilled to partner with BC Hydro and their Power Smart initiative in presenting the playoffs again this season,” said BCHL commissioner John Grisdale. “In all, 14 of our arenas will be involved in postseason action and our fans will be treated to exciting hockey on the way to the presentation of the Fred Page Cup.”

The top seven teams from the Coastal and Interior Conferences will qualify and the top team in each conference will receive an automatic bye into the second round. First-round matchups will be based on order of finish within the respective conference. The first round will be organized as follows:

Top seed gets bye to second round
Second seed vs. Seventh seed
Third seed vs. Sixth seed
Fourth seed vs. Fifth seed

Each series is a best-of-seven format. In the second round, the bye team will face the lowest-seeded team to emerge from the opening round. Support from the title sponsor is key in putting on the best show possible and BC Hydro is pleased to be able to provide it.

“BC Hydro was proud to support the BCHL and your local hockey heroes throughout the regular season, and we’re excited for the Fred Page Cup playoffs,” said Larina Lopez, BC Hydro’s senior manager community investment, outreach and education. “Our community outreach representatives will be back this spring to cheer on your favourite teams and celebrate your conservation efforts.

“Conservation and energy efficiency remain the best, most cost-effective way to meet our growing electricity demands in BC, and we’re helping spread the word.”

The BCHL championship round, which will decide the winner of the Fred Page Cup, is scheduled to begin on April 1. The winner will go on to face the Alberta Junior Hockey League champion in the Doyle Cup series for the right to go to the RBC Cup, being held this year in Camrose, Alberta
