SHINNIMIN NAMED HUSKY WHL PLAYER OF MONTH

CALGARY, AB. – The Western Hockey League announced today that forward Brendan Shinnimin, of the Tri-City Americans, has been named the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for January.

Playing in his 19 year-old year, the forward from Winnipeg, MB led all WHL scorers collected 29 points through the month of January, finding the net 11 times and accumulating 18 assists to go along with a +15 rating. Shinnimin collected points in all 13 games played which included nine multi-point games and three game winning goals. He is currently on a 19 game point streak since December 10, 2010 and is efforts earned him a Three Star selection four times through January including two first Stars.

Shinnimin’s 29 points through the January has him ranked 7th among all WHL scorers with 65 points (22 goals, 43 assists) in just 35 games played. His consistent play also led the Tri-City Americans to a 10-2-1-0 record through the month, which included a seven game stretch that saw the Ams undefeated in regulation. The Americans now find themselves fourth in the WHL Western Conference with a 31-13-2-1 record for 65 points, just six back of the Conference leading Portland Winterhawks.

Shinnimin is playing his third season with the Americans who listed the Manitoban as a 15 year-old in 2006. He has since gone on to appear in 173 WHL games gathering 61 goals, 111 assists for 172 career points, all while maintaining a +45 plus/minus rating.

His accomplishments make Brendan Shinnimin a deserving choice as the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for January.
