Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for February.
West Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the West Division is defenseman Grant Webermin of the Windsor Spitfires. Webermin, 16, a native of Novi, Michigan is currently attending St. Anne High School in Windsor. “Grant has completed successfully his first four courses and has achieved an A average. He has become a well respected student athlete by his Teachers and peers. Grant constantly strives to do his best and has been a role model since arriving here from Michigan. The Spitfire family is proud to have such an outstanding young man be part of our organization and wish him continued success in his second semester,”commented Spitfire Academic Advisor Dennis Gignac. Grant was a first round selection of the Spitfires in the 2010 Priority Selection.
Midwest Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the Midwest Division is centre Jarrod Maidens of the Owen Sound Attack. Maidens, 16, a native of Grimsby, Ontario is currently attending West Hill Secondary School, in Owen Sound. “Jarrod is a determined young man with a strong work ethic who challenges himself both on and off the ice. He is currently enrolled in Grade 11 focusing on University level Math and Science courses. His respectful demeanour and positive attitude makes him a favourite of both teachers and coaches. He is a role model for hockey players and students alike,” commented Sarah Rowe, Academic Advisor for the Attack. Maidens was a first round selection of the Attack in the 2010 Priority Selection.
Central Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the Central Division is right winger Dylan DeMelo of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. DeMelo, 17, a native of London, Ontario is a Grade 12 student at Philip Pocock Secondary School in Mississauga. Majors Academic Advisor Kim Bailey had this to say about Dylan, “Dylan maintains a 75% average with his three second term academic courses. He keeps focused on both his academics and his hockey.”
East Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for February in the East Division is goaltender Andrew D'Agostini of the Peterborough Petes Hockey Club. D’Agostini, 17, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, is currently in Grade 12 attending Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School in Peterborough. “Andrew’s academics are very important to him. He maintained his honour roll marks throughout his first semester. All of his teachers describe him as being conscientious, responsible, organized and proactive,” commented Janet Wylie, Academic Advisor for the Petes.
