LINDEN VEY NAMED WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Medicine Hat Tigers forward Linden Vey is the WHL Player of the Week.

Vey picked up nine points, scoring four goals and five assists to go with a +6 rating in three games over the last week, helping the Tigers to a 4-2 series win over the Brandon Wheat Kings in the first round and jump out to a 2-0 series lead over the Red Deer Rebels in the Husky WHL Eastern Conference Semi-Final.

On Monday, April 4th, the Medicine Hat Tigers were at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg with a chance to eliminate the Brandon Wheat Kings. Vey collected three assists and was named the games 3rd Star as the Tigers downed the Wheaties 7-5 to advance to round two of the WHL Playoffs.

On Friday, April 8th, the Tigers opened their Husky WHL Eastern Conference Semi-Final in Red Deer facing the Rebels. Vey scored two goals, two assists and was named the games 1st Star in the Tigers 9-1 win over the Rebels. The next night, Saturday, April 9th, in Red Deer, Vey scored another pair of goals and was named the games 3rd Star in the Tigers’ 5-0 victory over the Rebels.

The Medicine Hat Tigers now have a 2-0 series lead over the Red Deer Rebels in the Husky WHL Eastern Conference semi-final with games three and four scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13 at 7:00pm in the Medicine Hat Arena.

Vey, a 19 year old from Wakaw, SK, is playing his fourth season with the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Tigers made him their 2nd round (42th overall) selection at the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft and was selected in the 4th round (96th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. Vey set career highs in all offensive categories this season and captured the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL’s Top Scorer gathering 116 points (46 goals, 70 assists) in 69 games. He also currently leads all scorers in the 2011 WHL Playoffs with 18 points (9 goals, 9 assists) in eight games played.

The WHL has also nominated Tyler Bunz of the Medicine Hat Tigers for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Bunz posted a 2-0-0-0 record this past week, stopping 69 of 70 shots faced for a 0.50 goals-against average and 0.986 save percentage. Bunz, a native of St. Albert, AB, helped the Tigers emerge with a 2-0 series lead over the Red Deer Rebels in the Husky WHL Eastern Conference Semi-Final.
