Otters’ Luciani is OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Anthony Luciani of the Erie Otters is the OHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending April 3 scoring six goals and three assists for nine points in four games.

With the Otters facing elimination down 3-1 to the Windsor Spitfires in their first round best-of-seven playoff series, Luciani recorded back-to-back four-point games including a career-high four-goal game on Friday night in Game five. His fourth goal of the game counted as the overtime winner claiming first star honours in the 6-5 victory. Another 6-5 overtime score was the result in Game six on Sunday where Luciani scored twice and added two assists including one on Brett Thompson’s game-winner as third star of the game. His week also included an assist in Wednesday’s 7-4 Game four loss, while being held pointless in Monday’s 6-2 loss to the Spitfires in Game three. The Otters will visit the Spitfires for Game seven of the series on Tuesday night at the WFCU Centre.

Luciani, a 20-year-old from Maple, ON, is playing in his third and final OHL season with the Otters. This season he set a career-high for points with 78 in 54 games played scoring 29 goals and 49 assists.

Also considered for the award this week was Luciani’s teammate Phil Varone who led the league with 10 points in four games scoring two goals and eight assists. Adrian Robertson of the Windsor Spitfires produced eight points in four games scoring twice and adding six assists. In goal, Michael Zador of the Owen Sound Attack was perfect stopping all 48 shots faced in 123 minutes of action to earn two wins including one shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000.
