Shawinigan to host 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup

The President of the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup selection committee, Gérald Janneteau, officially announced today at a press conference held at the Hyatt-Regency Hotel in downtown Montreal that Shawinigan has been awarded the opportunity to present the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup Tournament.

"The selection committee rigorously analyzed each candidacy and made a decision based on the evaluation grid," said Gérald Jannetau.

"The committee’s decision to select Shawinigan to host the event is based on the fact that their bid had all the elements from top to bottom to convince us that they would present an excellent 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup Tournament: great hockey team, good organizing committee and superior installations. Moreover, we felt that the whole community was behind the bid. Each organization was well-prepared and made very professional presentations."

"MasterCard congratulates the Cataractes of Shawinigan for having been chosen to host the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup. It will be an incredible experience for the city," said Martin Leman, Vice-President of MasterCard Canada. "We are proud to be the title sponsor of the MasterCard Memorial Cup for more than a decade."

Four organizations were bidding for the tournament which will be held from May 15 to 23, 2012 : Cape Breton, Halifax, Saint John and Shawinigan.

Of note, the committee was comprised of five members: Gérald Janneteau, Me Robert Basque, Michel Côté, Vincent Damphousse and Me Bernard Valcourt.
