USHL Honors - Week 27

The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the 27th week of the 2010-11 USHL regular season.

Congratulations to forward John McCarron of the Lincoln Stars, named CCM Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman Jordan Schmaltz of the Sioux City Musketeers, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and C.J. Motte of the Waterloo Black Hawks who earned honors as the Reebok USHL Goaltender of the Week.

McCarron scored five points (3g, 2a) and posted a plus-four rating as the Stars locked in a playoff spot over the weekend. He had a three-point game (2g, 1a), including scoring the game-winning goal, in Friday's 5-4 win over Muskegon. McCarron also fired a game high seven shots in the contest. He added two points (1g, 1a) in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Sioux City which extended his point streak to five games (4g, 5a). The native of Macomb, Michigan has tallied at least one point in 12 of his last 13 games. McCarron, who turns 19 next week, is second on the Stars this season with 53 points (21g, 32a) in 57 games.

Schmaltz recorded six points (2g, 4a) over three games to help the Musketeers extend their winning streak to seven. He registered a goal and one assist in Tuesday's 7-4 win over Tri-City. The 17-year-old defenseman then scored a goal for the fourth straight game, which proved to be the game-winner in Friday's 4-0 win vs. Des Moines. Schmaltz rounded out the week by dishing out three assists in the 4-3 victory against Lincoln on Saturday. It is the third consecutive week and fifth time overall that the native of Verona, Wisconsin has won the USHL weekly award. He currently leads all USHL defensemen with 41 points (13g, 28a) in 50 games.

Motte allowed just two goals and posted a .965 save percentage as the Black Hawks won a pair of games in their pursuit of a playoff spot. He made 31 saves in the 2-1 win vs. Cedar Rapids on Friday. The 19-year-old then stopped 24 shots in Saturday's 5-1 victory over Muskegon. It is the second time in a span of three weeks and the third time overall this season that Motte has won the weekly goaltending award. The native of St. Clair, Michigan has won 14 games for the Black Hawks this season and collected 35 victories over his two-year USHL career.
