USHL Honors - Week 28

Press Release

The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the final week of the 2010-11 USHL regular season.

Congratulations to forward Dan DeSalvo of the Des Moines Buccaneers, named CCM Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman Peter Stoykewych of the Des Moines Buccaneers, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Todd Mathews of the Omaha Lancers who earned honors as the Reebok USHL Goaltender of the Week.

DeSalvo scored six points (3g, 3a) and posted a plus-five rating in two victories for the Buccaneers. The 19-year-old forward from Rolling Meadows, Illinois had a USHL career high four points (2g, 2a) in the 7-0 win over Youngstown on Wednesday. He then had two points (1g, 1a) during a five-goal third period for the Bucs on Friday as they earned a 5-3 win vs. Team USA. DeSalvo finished his first USHL season as the leading scoring for Des Moines as he collected 42 points (14g, 28a) in 58 games.

Stoykewych recorded four points (2g, 2a) over two Buccaneers victories. He had a goal and one assist in Wednesday's 7-0 victory and again had two points (1g, 1a) in Friday's 5-3 win. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native scored the fourth goal in the Bucs five-goal third period. The tally by the defenseman was his first game-winner in the USHL. Stoykewych has scored 15 points (5g, 10a) in 58 games during his first season in the League after being selected third overall in the 2010 USHL Entry Draft.

Mathews allowed just one goal and posted a .984 save percentage as he earned two road victories for the Lancers. The goaltender from Covina, California made 31 saves in the 2-1 win vs. Fargo on Friday. He then stopped all 29 shots he faced in the 2-0 victory over Sioux Falls to record his third USHL shutout. The win helped the Lancers secure the second seed in the Western Conference and first-round bye in the playoffs. Mathews, who turns 20 next week, has won 18 games during his first USHL season.
