Winterhawks Sign Chase De Leo

Press Release

The Portland Winterhawks have announced the signing of center Chase De Leo, the team’s ninth round selection, 192nd overall, in the 2010 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

De Leo played this season for the L.A. Selects U16 team, and had 20 goals and 19 assists for 39 points in 35 games, helping lead his team to the national semifinals. He was third on his team in scoring, and tied for eighth in league scoring. Among his 20 goals were seven game-winning goals and seven power play goals.

During the 2009-10 season, De Leo had 27 goals and 56 assists for 83 points in 28 games for the L.A. Selects Bantam AAA team that advanced all the way to the national championship game.

“We’re excited that Chase has chosen the Portland Winterhawks. Originally when we drafted him we knew he would have several attractive options to play in the USHL and NCAA,” said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. “Chase is an outstanding player with high character, and will play a big part in our future.”
